Photo Diary: A Visit to the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Garden in Hobart
Having visited both, if I had to declare a preference between Monet's Gardens in France or the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens in Hobart, I would choose the latter. Not only were the Tasmanian gardens more peaceful (as a garden should be) but I found them to be generally more beautiful. It makes me wonder what Monet could be capable of if he was still alive and living in Tasmania.
How to get here
Providing that you don't get lost in the fields like me, the gardens are an easy 30 minute walk from the Hobart visitor's centre. As an added bonus the path takes you through the Soldiers Memorial walk where 520 trees were planted in 1918 and 1919 to commemorate the soldiers from Hobart lost in the First World War. Otherwise, although public transport will not take you to the gardens, the hop-on hop-off bus (which is for some reason a red double-decker London-esque bus) will take you directly to the front door of the gardens and then back into the CBD. After walking at least an hour through fields and up and down hills to get to the gardens, I rejoiced to discover that we could pay a small fee of $3 to join the hop-on hop-off bus for our return trip into town.
